Brick pavers and hardscape.
Pool Coping
Coping is the cap that runs around the edge of the pool. It sheds water away from the shell, gives you something to hold, and it is the first thing that looks tired when it starts to lift.
When coping needs replacing
Lifted or rocking pieces, open joints where the mortar has let go, hairline cracks running the same direction as the edge, or a lip you can feel with your foot. Water gets behind loose coping and works on everything under it, so it is worth looking at early rather than late.
How it goes back
The old coping comes off, the bond beam gets cleaned and checked, and the new pieces are set and jointed so the line stays true the whole way around. Curves and radius ends get cut on site, piece by piece, because that is the only way the joints stay even through the turn.
Coping and deck together
Most of the time coping is replaced at the same time as the deck, and that is usually the better call. Doing them together means one mobilization, one dust event, and a joint between the two that was planned instead of inherited.
What the job includes
- Removal of the failed coping
- Bond beam cleaned and checked
- Radius and curve cuts made on site
- Joints set even through the turns
- Coordinated with the deck when both are being done
Exactly what is and is not included goes in writing on your estimate.
How it goes
You will know what is happening at each stage
Three stages, and we tell you which one you are in.
On-site estimate
We come to you, measure, look at what is there now, and find out where the water goes. You get a written estimate that lists the material, the work, and what is not included.
Installation
Removal and haul-off, excavation to stable ground, a compacted base, then the bedding layer and the paver. Edge restraint on the open edges, polymeric sand in the joints, and the site cleaned down at the end.
Sealing and care
Cleaning, re-sanding the joints, and sealing when the surface is ready for it. This is the part that decides whether you are maintaining a deck in a few years or rebuilding one.
